Angma Soju

Angma Soju

Angma Soju began by crafting its traditional rice beer known as Makgeolli, which has garnered significant acclaim, winning Gold at the 2022 and 2023 L.A. Spirit Awards. This award-winning Makgeolli serves as the base for their Soju, which itself has won Silver in 2022 and 2023, with aspirations for Gold in the coming year. Angma produces this Makgeolli just outside Los Angeles, describing it as bubbly, sweet, and the perfect rendition of the beverage. They then distill this Makgeolli in Pasadena to create what they consider the most authentic and cleanest tasting Soju available. Angma claims uniqueness in their method of making traditional Makgeolli and distilling it into Soju within LA County and expresses a camaraderie with any others who might share this niche.

Angma Soju is crafted from California rice, a touch of wheat, and no compromises. It is a small batch, small business, minority, and veteran-owned enterprise. The name "ANGMA" translates to "Demon" in Korean Buddhism, symbolizing the spirit that may lead one astray. However, Angma embraces this concept, promoting the idea that being led off course shouldn't be demonized but rather seen as an opportunity to forge one's own path, innovate, and stay true to oneself.
